View Printable version of this article Big Brother 9 has already given us several contestants who have been discussed here in the Reality TV Hall of Shame. One, Jacob, was for strategic reasons. Two more, Joshuah and Chelsia, were hit for their nasty comments. But the first Hall of Shame Moment of the season went to Adam, for his “retards” comment. It’s time for an update on Adam. In case you’ve forgotten, he referred to the kids with whom he works as “retards” and then had the nerve to actually defend his use of the incredibly offensive term! We haven’t seen as much of Adam on the show itself (thankfully), so this update doesn’t concern his behavior there. Instead, it concerns his real life. As I noted in my original write-up, “It would not surprise me one bit to find out that when Adam gets out of the Big Brother house, he no longer has a job. In fact, I would be surprised if he is not fired! After all, who would want him working for them doing that job when he refers to people – especially children – that way?” Well, guess what? Adam has been fired! The organization for whom Adam worked was not mentioned in Adam’s official bio. But the United Autism Foundation has ‘fessed up in a couple notes on its website. While the website is fairly basic (as they say, they don’t have the money to build a better web presence at this point), they have two prominent statements about Adam. The first notes that they do “not agree with any and all irresponsible comments made by Adam Jasinski about children and adults who have been diagnosed with autism.” It continues, “Unfortunately, Adam Jasinski made some comments, which are not acceptable and we deeply apologize to all those who are affected by this overseen disorder.” After again noting that they disagree with Adam’s comments, they clearly state, “Mr. Jasinski will no longer work for or represent the United Autism Foundation since he caused tremendous damage to UNIAF.” The other statement is an “Official Apology for any and all inappropriate, unprofessional and unacceptable comments made by Adam.” They add, “We deeply apologize for the anger, which has been created by Adam on CBS.” It’s really too bad that an organization whose sole goal is to support those with autism has to apologize for the idiotic comments made by one of their employees – who should certainly have known better. Truly, the only person who owes an apology is Adam himself. (Yes, this means those who are calling for CBS to issue an apology are asking the wrong people – CBS didn’t say it, Adam did. Blame him and only him.) It is rare that we commend anybody’s activity here in the Hall of Shame – after all, that’s not really what this place is for. However, that is precisely what we should do for the United Autism Foundation. They saw the way Adam behaved and condemned it. More than that, they took the proper action by firing Adam. After all, how could he possibly have continued to work for them – for the very kids he insulted? He couldn’t, and shouldn’t. Do you want to see all the action in the house yourself?
