The Epitome of Bat-Poo Insane: Big Brother 11’s Chima

Her first problem is financial. While the finalists’ prizes are the most advertised, every houseguest gets money for appearing on the show. Everyone gets a stipend of $750 for every week they remain in the house. If they make the jury, they get a $10,000 bonus, as they’ll be committed for the whole season. Showing up at the finale earns players an additional $5,000 bonus from what I’ve been told over the years.

Chima’s expulsion cost her a jury spot, and it’s also very unlikely she’ll be invited back for the finale, so that’s $15,000 she’s potentially lost thanks to her behavior. She still gets her stipend, which is, at most, $4,500 (six weeks’ stay). She was expelled on day 41, one day shy of the six-week mark, so it may only be $3,750, and that’s before taxes. On top of everything else, Chima and the others were informed that the cost of the microphone she destroyed will come out of her stipend. The microphone costs $4,000.

It’s very possible that when all is said and done, Chima might actually owe money to the producers. From a financial standpoint, she basically wasted six weeks. Chima, of course, isn’t worried, as she’s publicly stated that she has plenty of money from the settlement of her rape case (she was raped by a serial killer years ago, a fact she used in the house to gain sympathy from allies and puff herself up as “strong” to her enemies).

But even if she has money, her job prospects would seem to be shot. Chima is a freelance journalist, which means most of the time she’s unemployed. After her exploits, she’s closer to unemployable. No reputable news agency would hire someone who went on national television and lied, cheated, stole, couldn’t control herself, acted out violently, and used racial slurs.

I’ve actually thought about this, and there are only two news outlets that might give her a chance. She could get into a tabloid like TMZ, as she focuses on celebrity gossip, so they’d be okay with lying for ratings, or she could go for some similar “news” organization known for hyperbole. Apart from that, she’s completely screwed her career for at least the next five years.

Chima showed time and time again in her brief stay in the house why she deserved the title of Bat-Poo Insane. In fact, I’ve never felt more justified in my choice. Upon her expulsion, several readers actually suggested that I retire the BPI show, as there will never be another like Chima who so exemplifies the lack of skill, character, and quality that BPI stands for.

What Chima failed to understand is that there’s a difference between outspoken and loud. If you let your opinions be known, you’re outspoken. If you scream, you’re just loud. There’s also a difference between saying you’re a strong woman because you survived a traumatic event and actually being a strong woman through positive, proactive, and, most importantly, sane actions. It’s another subtle difference that was lost on her.

She was a brat, a hypocrite, and a racist. She was a poor winner and an even worse loser. She wanted to dictate rules to the others, but never wanted to abide by the rules she didn’t like. Rather than accept her situation, cope, and deal with it within the context of the game, she went completely bonkers and destroyed her game, as well as valuable production equipment. Outside the house, she has been even more defiant, showing no remorse, and not even entertaining the possibility that she could be wrong. After all, she’s Chima. Well, guess what? Chima is Bat-Poo Insane, and now she’s enshrined in the Reality TV Hall of Shame.
