View Printable version of this article As we all prepare for another summer of watching Big Brother, the winner from three seasons ago has once again made the news – and not in any sort of a good way. You may recall that in October of last year, Big Brother 9 winner Adam Jasinski was arrested for illegally selling oxycodone. (If you don’t recall, you can read about it here.) He had apparently taken a chunk of the $500,000 he won as top prize in that season and used it to buy the drugs, which he then planned to resell for profit. The authorities did not look kindly upon this particular brand of entrepreneurial thinking! News reports at the time said Adam flew to Boston and showed a person he thought was a buyer, but whom the Associated Press describes as “a man cooperating with authorities,” a sock holding plastic bags filled with the drugs. Whoops! It gets worse – it turned out that Matthew “Matt” McDonald, from the same season of Big Brother, was similarly charged this past April in relation to alleged conspiracy to distribute the drug. Yes, they were allegedly working together on this! OK, so where’s the news? Well, in November, Adam had originally pleaded not guilty to the charges of possession with intent to distribute oxycodone. Now, a court filing indicates that he intends to change his plea. A hearing on the matter is now scheduled for July 20. (For the record, neither Adam’s attorney nor the prosecutor has commented on the record. But Matt’s attorney has stated that he is not currently considering a plea change.) If Adam does indeed change his plea (and I don’t see why he wouldn’t be at this point, given the court filing and hearing date), it will be interesting to see what kind of deal he reaches. Is he going to turn on somebody else? (We all know backstabbing your former ally is a key strategy in reality TV, after all.) Or is there a deal to limit his jail time, which could extend to as much as 20 years with these charges? We’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, if you want to relive some of Adam’s earlier shameful moments (though none that reach these levels, of course), you can check out his Hall of Shame Moment for his use of a slur to describe disabled children while he was supposed to be working for a charity that helped those kids, a look at how he was fired for those comments, and then my post-finale interview with him in which I ended up being the one who informed him that he’d been fired! As one brief reminder from that interview, he had told me at the time, “I went into the house with the intention of helping children and I’m leaving the house with that same intention.” Apparently, somewhere along the way, his intentions changed dramatically.
