What Will Jerri Do? – A Prediction of Her ‘Survivor: All-Stars’ Behavior

by David Bloomberg -- 01/12/2004
Jerri Manthey has been on two reality shows, and of course was a full inductee to the Reality TV Hall of Shame for Survivor 2. But her time on The Surreal Life was a bit calmer. So which Jerri will show up this time around?

It has been rumored for quite a while, but now we know it for certain: Jerri Manthey is one of the players brought back for Survivor: All-Stars. Jerri, of course, is a full inductee here at the Reality TV Hall of Shame, for her behavior both during and after her season of Survivor. In addition, she received a follow-up article to look at her behavior on The Surreal Life, Episode 1. However, there were no further updates on her for the rest of the show.

Why is that important? Because Jerri showed us that she can actually be a semi-normal human being. Well, that and Corey Feldman was there to take on the “villain” role, so that spot was already filled. But the point is that on one reality show – and immediately afterwards – she showed herself to be a complete bitch. On another, she showed that she can be okay.

So which Jerri will we see on Survivor: All-Stars?

My prediction is quite simple: The Bitch.

Why am I making such a prediction based on absolutely no information as of yet? Because while we have seen two sides of Jerri, they were both under extremely different circumstances. In The Surreal Life, she was with a few other people for only a bit more than a week. All of them were working together towards common goals. None of them was competing with the other for monetary prizes. In other words, it was a fairly stress-free (not counting dealing with Corey) experience.

However, we have seen how Jerri acts under pressure. She has admitted a number of times that she was a “roaring bitch” on Survivor, although she has occasionally claimed otherwise, such as in her appearance on VH1’s Reality Secrets Revealed. Even in her time on The Surreal Life, she said that she would be nice as long as nobody pissed her off. Being that she is so tolerant of others, I’m sure nobody ever pisses her off.

Once again, Jerri is going to be put in a situation that is meant to provide stress. She will begin her time on the Saboga tribe, with her old nemesis Tina right by her side. If that isn’t enough to set her off right there, one of her other tribemates is Rudy, known for being rather crusty. Another is Jenna Lewis, known for being a non-stop talker. I’m sure that will just thrill Jerri to no end. And she’ll probably love Rupert and his talk of “my spear, my island, my game.” Her other beginning tribemate will be Ethan, but he’ll probably be the only one she can stand.

One good thing about being on the same tribe as Rupert is that there is a good chance she’ll at least have food. So that will remove one part of the stress equation. Instead of being hungry and tired – which she said magnified the bitchy aspects of her personality the first time around – she’ll just be tired.

All in all, we can expect to see the evil side of Jerri come out again. She annoyed her tribemates so much in her first go-round that they voted her out even before the opposing alliance was gone. Arguably, she was voted out before she should have been, because if Amber had joined forces with the opposition, there would have been trouble. That’s the kind of personality that Jerri brought with her last time, and I believe it will be the same personality that she brings this time.

If she does, she will run a serious risk of being the first person voted out of her tribe. Certainly they shouldn’t want to vote out Rupert or Ethan (although Rupert does run a risk since he doesn’t know all the others from previous Survivor parties and the like – but that should be more than made up for by his strength and experience in Panama). Tina and Jenna should be safe for a couple votes, if only due to their friendships with the others outside the game.

Certainly Jerri will try to combat this by making alliances, but with whom? Tina was in an alliance with her once already and stabbed her in the back. Would anybody else have her?

I think the first vote will come down to a choice of Rudy or Jerri. If Jerri can reign in her personality for a few days and Rudy doesn’t show the strength necessary to stick around, Jerri might make it. But if her bitch personality comes out right away, the tribe might know enough about her to get rid of her early.

Rest assured that if she continues with the behavior she was known for on her first Survivor stint, the Reality TV Hall of Shame will be back to update her standing. If she does manage to stay long enough, she might even get herself inducted again.
